Projects Portfolio Selection
In our experience, this is usually the ‘weakest link’ in an OpEx/ CI program deployment. Organisations rush to train Green and Black Belts before adequately equipping the senior team to become engaged through training and most importantly by getting involved in a Projects Selection exercise. The alternative usually is to ask the Green and Black Belts to come up with their projects bottom up. This is fraught with risks. Projects generally grind to a halt later as they become resource-starved because the divisional or the functional head never really bought into the project or because the projects do not align to their objectives.
At 3i Consulting Ltd. we have developed a mature and robust process of working with the senior team to create this engagement through training and working with them to create a portfolio of prioritised projects which align with the organisational objectives and delivers a higher ROI.
Quality Management System (QMS)
Most organisations underplay their ISO9001 program and usually treat it as a compliance issue and tend to go through very last-minute efforts to meet requirements at the annual audits. We think that ISO9001 could be a very useful foundation for organisations looking to implement Continuous Improvement (CI). It is our experience that when we look at the root cause(s) of many problems and even solutions to those problems, we are staring at the need for a robust Quality Management System. However, implementing improvements through a handful number of projects is never an adequate substitute for building a strong foundation for the business using the ISO9001 standard.
QMS offers a comprehensive and integrated set of processes starting with Voice of Customer (VoC), Objectives Setting, Resource Planning, Skills and Competencies, Knowledge Management, Standardised Policies and Procedures, Controlled design and delivery of products & services, Management Review and Dashboards and finishing with Implementation of improvements.
